Aldeburgh Town Council

Aldeburgh Good Neighbours Scheme
AGNES

Our services cover those living in the IP15 postal code.

There are adjacent Good Neighbours Schemes in Thorpeness, Leiston and Snape.  We will refer calls from residents in adjacent areas to these schemes.

The majority of our requests for help are for transport to the doctors’  and dentists’ surgeries and the Aldeburgh hospital.

We refer requests for transport to Ipswich hospital to CATS (Coastal Accessible Transport) tel 01728 830516.

Many of our calls are for advice on subjects such as care for the elderly and infirm.

Where we cannot help, we refer these enquiries onto the appropriate services and agencies.

We have a mobile telephone number 07773 031064 and we advertise that the phone is manned by a Duty Co-ordinator from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

When clients need help they call this number and explain the service they need.

The Duty Co-ordinator then records this and obtains the client’s details, name, telephone number, address.

To satisfy GDPR we have to inform clients that we are recording their details and seek their permission to do so.

The Duty Co-ordinator then finds a volunteer and assigns the job to that volunteer and passes on the client’s details.

The Duty Co-ordinator then calls back the client with the name of the volunteer and tells them they will shortly be receiving a phone call from that volunteer.

If transport is required, the standard charge we make to cover the volunteer’s motoring expenses is 45p per mile with a minimum charge of £2.00.

Otherwise we make no charges for our services as we are a voluntary organisation.

All requests for our services must come through the AGNES phone (07773 031064).
